Undergraduate Leadership Workshop
APPLICATIONS & NOMINATIONS ARE CLOSED
This five-day workshop at NSF NCAR in Boulder, Colorado, introduces high-achieving undergraduate students from across the U.S. to the science and facilities of NSF NCAR and exposes them to careers in the Earth system sciences. Areas of scientific focus include Earth system research, forecasting, modeling, data assimilation, AI and ML, solar dynamics, and societal impacts of severe weather.
CAREER DEVELOPMENT
Students visit scientific labs and facilities, receive lectures by leading scientists and engineers, and learn what skills and training are needed for careers in today’s workforce.
DEVELOPING PROFESSIONAL AND CAREER SKILLS
Students participate in seminars on graduate school, and careers in the private sector, or government research labs. Professional development workshops may include technical skills training in AI/ML, but also improving job application materials.
LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Students will receive professionally led training in guiding teams and developing leadership skills. They will have the opportunity to meet professionals in different leadership positions at NSF NCAR and UCAR. Students have one-on-one conversations with leading scientists and engineers and receive guidance on their own career paths.
